Project 075 - Child sponsorship in China

At the initial meeting, the children looked sad and forlorn but when they came to realise that they were loved and somebody wanted to care for them, their attitudes changed.

For the first time since their parents died, these children experienced a sense of belonging and happiness.

New life for 'aids orphans' in China

Napoleon said, "Let China sleep for when she awakes, the world will tremble". Over 102 billion souls and growing fast. Please help Siloam through Childcare International influence hearts and minds of China's many 'aids orphans'.

Dear Friends,

It happened in a rural peasant community in one of China's distant provinces. This is where little Huang was born and where she grew up under the tender loving care of her mum and dad. She was just a little girl when she noticed that her father was not keeping well like he used to. He had become ill and just could not get better no matter what he did. She always hoped he would recover so that he could play with her as before, but instead he went from bad to worse. Her fears became even more intense when her mother also fell ill. The happiness she had known previously was gone, fear and uncertainty now haunted her. What Huang could not understand was that her parents had contracted aids. Their blood had become infected through no fault of their own. And what she also did not realise was that this meant certain death for both of them. So, the unavoidable happened, Huang's parents died and she was left all alone as an orphan.

In keeping with traditional culture, extended families have an obligation to take in related orphans. However, for poor farmers to feed one more mouth, this can be a real burden. More children mean less food to share. Naturally the new children who may not even be closely related to the family, are resented. Often there is insufficient food for everyone so is it any wonder that these orphans are often malnourished, not to mention without money for school expenses. So, most of the time these 'aids orphans' are unwanted and treated like outcasts. And yet, their present predicament is neither their fault nor their choice, their former healthy self-esteem is slowly eroded away....

This was the story of little Huang - a life without hope.

A change for the better occurred when Childcare International stepped in. Christian workers belonging to various house churches became aware of the plight of these children and decided to reach out to them. As an introduction, they asked them to come to a Christian meeting. Since no one ever invited them to anything before, they all came. Initially, they looked sad and forlorn. They could not believe that there were people who actually cared about them. But slowly, they came to realise that what they had been longing for, for so long - was here. They found they were loved and accepted. It was just a matter of time until they each came out of their shells and started to enjoy and participate in the meetings.

The children were enrolled in school and each received a brand new uniform. They were given extra nutritious food so they are no longer malnourished.

They also had psychological counselling and last but not least, they came to understand that they could be part of God's universal family through faith in Jesus Christ. For the first time since their parents died, these children now have a sense of belonging. As probably one of the very few child sponsorship agencies working in China, Siloam supporters through their partners Childcare International now have this unique opportunity to make a difference in these children's lives. What a challenge, just think and imagine of the potential of each of these children's lives. Could they become future evangelists? Or, pastors or teachers even perhaps political leaders that will help steer China in a godly direction.

Dear Siloam friends, our pilot project for helping these 'aids orphans' in China has become so successful that we now feel we can expand it and offer it to Siloam supporters here in the UK. The need is clearly there, children orphaned through aids are very much unwanted and discriminated against.

Right now, we even have Chinese Christian voluntary workers standing by who don't need paying. These volunteers just love the Lord so much that they want to share their love with the children to the extent that they are willing to risk their own lives for them!

All we need to do is to recruit sponsors who will pray for and financially support these children. The cost of sponsorship is just £20.00 per month but it covers the cost of education, counselling, extra nutritious food and Bible instruction. You can now help a lonely, unhappy Chinese child overcome their unfortunate circumstances and help them to find new life, happiness and purpose. If you feel you would like to personally participate in this project or perhaps get your church involved collectively to share in this challenge, please return our response coupon below so we can enrol you as a partner in project 075. You may send your first gift today and enrol in the child sponsorship programme as well if you would like to share each month to rescue an 'aids orphan' in China.

May God bless you as you consider helping a child in China.

Sincerely yours on behalf of these special children awaiting sponsorship in China,
