Project 026 – Aid to Vietnam

Because of the relatively low cost of building in Vietnam, Siloam is currently able to sponsor new buildings like Mrs Le Thi Thuy’s on donated land for just £1,200.00.

Mrs Le Thi Thuy’s shack, her daughter’s husband died of a mysterious illness so she left her 2 children with her mother and left the area to marry a man who presumably did not want to care for her two children. This was the home where she lived in before a caring Siloam supporter provided the funds for the new dwelling.

Mrs Le Thi Thuy stands proudly outside her new house which was purchased and built at a modest cost sponsored by a Siloam supporter.

The previous dilapidated dwelling of Mrs Nguyen Thi Minh of Quang Ngai province which was the home of one of our sponsored children.

Just imagine how much this new home will make a difference to the quality of life of Mrs Nguyen Thi Minh.

The flimsy dwelling of Mrs Tran Thi Lan which sadly would not survive the storms and typhoons the like of which we saw last September/October.

Above, provided by Mr Jim Banks of the Chard Baptist Church a new dwelling which should stand a better chance of withstanding severe tropical storms.

Michael and Lan Subbamani who work for Siloam in Leamington Spa.

Tran Cong Duc who was first helped as a boy in an orphanage by Dr Stuart Harveston. Duc later became our valuable co-worker responsible for the day-to-day oversight of Siloam’s operations in Vietnam.

Don Foster from the Chard Baptist Church regularly visits Vietnam at least once a year sometimes twice.

New homes for old in Vietnam

Siloam’s project to bring lasting relief to poor families after the typhoon floods of autumn 2009 – the worst for 40 years!!!

Siloam is one of the few organisations based in the UK which has a Christian outreach ministry to Vietnam. Leamington Spa is also the home of the late The Rev’d Pat Ash who sadly passed away last year, he first began to organise the mercy flights and adoption of Vietnamese orphaned babies back in the 1960s and 1970s. Although Siloam never had any contact at all with the late Rev’d Pat Ash formerly at St Mary’s in Leamington Spa, he was known to one of our co-workers who worked with a number of agencies in Vietnam and he inspired Siloam to set up a child sponsorship programme which currently supports 160+ children today.

In addition to that, Siloam has helped many medical and social work projects in Vietnam over the years and in this publication, we would like to share with you how this year you can help a poor family have a new substantially built home at a relatively low cost. For just £1,200.00 supporters can provide a new home for a family built with bricks, steel and concrete which will include the basic necessities we take for granted of toilet and running water. Here are just a few examples of homes we have built in the recent past to inspire you to get involved with this year’s new homes for old project in Vietnam.

You can have full confidence in supporting Siloam with our new homes for old project because over the years we have helped several families enjoy the benefit of a new secure dwelling. We have our own co-worker Tran Cong Duc on the field who has been with our Siloam operations since the beginning in 1995 and we have our Representative for Southeast Asia Don Foster a retired Civil Servant who is also a radio expert working in relief operations. Don is often recruited by Tear Fund and other agencies to work in disaster areas. Don currently works part time as a social worker in Taunton and the Chard Baptist Church which he attends, supports most of his air fares for his missionary endeavours in the Philippines and Vietnam.

Our own staff here in Leamington Spa Michael and Lan Subbamani understand well the situation in Vietnam having visited the country twice since coming to the UK in 1989 and maintaining regular contacts through friends and family by email and telephone etc…

Please help if you can with our special appeal. Your gift will be important for an impoverished family in Vietnam – your love really does matter right now.
