Rehoboth 'God has made a place for us' - Genesis 26:22

Giving children a future and a hope
by Jan Druckenmiller

Siloam Christian Ministries has been a primary supporter of the Rehoboth Children's Home ever since it officially opened in July 2003. The UK organisation has played a big part in terms of financial support for our operational fund.

Rehoboth Children's Home provides a temporary shelter for children who have been neglected, surrendered or orphaned. Our goal is to eventually place these children for adoption when no option exists for them to be reunited with their birth families. We are very grateful that we now have a full time social worker who can process the children's paperwork to make them available for adoption. The children are first presented for local matching with any potential adoptive Filipino families. If no matches are found at the local level, then the children's paperwork proceeds to the inter-country Adoption Board of the Philippines for international matching. To date, one child has been successfully placed for local adoption and three children have left for international adoption. Seven more children have been matched with families around the world, including the USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, France and Australia.

Lea and Joel were two of the first original three children to come into the Home when it first became operational in June 2003. Joel left with his adoptive family in December 2005 for Australia. One month later in January 2006, Lea followed her playmate of three years, making her home also in Australia with her adoptive family. Hopefully, Joel and Leah will have an opportunity to see each other from time to time as they grow. How wonderful if Bob and Barbara Morriss, the founders of the Rehoboth Children's Home who reside in Australia, could also meet up with these two children who benefited so greatly from the Morriss' vision of a safe haven for destitute children in the Philippines.

Lea, Joel and Matthew, the original three little musketeers spent their first years of their lives together in the Rehoboth Children's Home, not unlike sisters and brothers growing up together in a family. In a letter received from Lea's adoptive mother in February, she said "Lea had her first playgroup at church today with other kids. She naturally seems to gravitate towards the boys and loves to play with them (I am sure this is partly habit). She has made two good friends Nathan and Avalon. She asked to pray for them in her prayer time before she went to bed tonight. Last night she wanted to pray for Matthew, Simon and Jelly Rose … so we always do. What you have done for Lea during her time at Rehoboth will always be shared with her as a treasure for her to be thankful to God for us."

It is so exciting to see the vision and purpose of the Rehoboth Children's Home being fulfilled. God has made a place for these children at Rehoboth where they can be put out of harm's way. But God also promises in His Word that He will not leave us as orphans. (John 14:18) and we are seeing the literal evidence of that promise as our Rehoboth children find their forever families.

Fe, the Deputy Administrator, and Eden, the social worker, have the challenge of reviewing the files of prospective adoptive parents and matching each child with a family with whom they will feel compatible. Please pray along with us that there would be Christian families in the matching pool. It is our desire that these precious little ones would be brought up to know their Heavenly Father who is mindful of every sparrow that falls and who has had His hand on them, protecting them and putting into place a plan for each of their lives.

Even though children are leaving for adoption, the Rehoboth Children's Home remains full. Three new children were admitted between November 2005 and February 2006 so the population of the Home has also changed somewhat, whereas before the residents were mostly infants and toddlers, there are now a handful of children in the 4 to 7 year old age group including a sibling group of three year olds. These children enjoy attending the Rehoboth Early Learning Centre each day which is preparation for them for later enrolment in elementary school. During this school year, the children have been learning about the world around them. They have learned about their five senses and how they can use their senses to make discoveries about their world. They have been studying plant and animals and different types of environments. For the culminating unit of the school year, the children will be learning about the importance of keeping their world clean.

This ministry at Rehoboth is entirely supported by voluntary donations which is the aim of sharing this information with you. If you would like to contribute towards the Rehoboth Children's Home, please use the coupon at the foot of this letter, making your cheque payable to 'Siloam Christian Ministries' and making use of their 'freepost' facility or just phone them with your Credit Card details.

Thank you.
