"But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33)

The motivation to visit the staff and children of the Lambwe Christian School for the Deaf came from Thusnelda Kroll (then 92).The school has grown with her care and by support from many friends from humble beginnings. Back in the early '90s it was no more than a shack in an area riddled with disease. The deaf experienced gross prejudice and open rejection. Thursnelda Kroll, Richard Norton Director of Siloam Christian Ministries, together with supporters provided all my costs and also the computer and camera I was able to take to the school. How I thank Richard, Thusnelda and others who have given towards this work and contributed to the transformation that is now taking place.

Desire to Serve

I grew up on a farm in South Africa where my first friends were the black children of the poor farm labourers. Like them, I played in the African dust and sun. Unlike them I went to a very fine independent boarding schools and later university where I studied to be a teacher. My spirit and soul are connected to Africa and its people. My desire to love and serve the poor came from these beginnings.

Currently much of my time is spent with people who are marginalised. I am a pastoral volunteer with St. James' Church, Ealing, London and serve alongside the person who works with the homeless.

Siloam Christian Ministries

Richard Norton has given me a focus to develop the support for Lambwe Christian School for the Deaf and also help so I can raise support for my own involvement in the work of Siloam. As an associate missionary with Siloam Christian Ministries, I am being called to the following areas:

  • to build up the computer and digital photography skills and other areas of vocational training at Lambwe Christian School for the Deaf

  • to continue to find friends who would like to support the school

  • to use the contacts, stories and pictures to share the "Good News" with audiences in the UK so that they too can appreciate that "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (John 1:5). To this end I have been training with Open Air Campaigners. OAC has a strap line "Presenting Christ by all means everywhere" and this is what I feel called to do.

Thank you so very much for your interest. If you would like to contribute to the ongoing work of Siloam please contact us!

The village of Ogongo, where the school is situated and the fishing village of Homa Bay provided truly amazing photographic opportunities. Below are versions of the same picture: "Fishermen Launching out" in Sepia, Black and White, Normal Colour and Solarised.
